Program Philosophy
Colonel By Child Care Centre supports and encourages positive relationships among children, parents and staff. The centre provides a compliment to parental care within a warm and caring learning environment that both nurtures the individual child and supports the families' needs. Our programs are rich in discovery, fun and learning activities that are designed to help enhance each child¡s self esteem and sense of self worth. Children are introduced to activities and opportunities that support their emotional, social, creative, cognitive and physical growth.
The children participate in an anti-bias curriculum in an environment that fosters active learning, autonomy, freedom, and a sense of responsibility and order. The staff strive to stimulate each child's natural curiosity and encourage personal expression through real experience and play.The centre has a commitment to foster the values of co-operation, kindness, empathy, respect and responsibility.
In order to achieve these objectives, a daily schedule of activities has been developed which includes both active and quiet play, indoors and outdoors. Free play and structured learning periods, large and small group activities, walks around campus and a consistent approach to meals, sleep/quiet times and toileting routines are also part of the programs.
Because families are of primary importance in a child's development, the staff strive to bring about collaboration between the home and centre in ways that enhance the child's development. The staff have a commitment to develop relationships of mutual trust with the families they serve, to respect the dignity of each family, each families' child rearing values and their right to make decisions for their children (within the framework of our cooperative group care environment), to interpret each child's progress and to help families understand and appreciate the value of developmentally appropriate early childhood programs.
Staff work in a team driven environment that promotes open communication, opportunities for professional development, input into decision making and financial recognition of the value of their work.
